SWINDON Robins have announced Jason Doyle as their number one rider for the 2016 campaign.

The Aussie returns to Swindon after two seasons at Leicester Lions, quoting the quality of his family life as one of the driving forces behind the move.

The 30-year-old, who is still recovering from his crash in the final of the Melbourne Grand Prix, comes in on a 9.44 average and Alun Rossiter is delighted to have him back on board.

“Since Leigh Adams left we haven’t had an out and out number one and having Darcy (Ward) last year just showed us what we were missing,” said Rossiter.

“His (Doyle’s) average says it all. He is the highest rider in the league and takes a big chunk of our points up but it is what happens when you get one of the top riders.

“He will be a different rider to the one who rode for us in 2012. He is maturing more and more every week and his game is up there.

“You just need to see what he did in the Grand Prix series. In the early days he was a bit rash but you can see that he has learnt and is more calculated and more thoughtful.

“He has been renowned for being a bit fiery but he has certainly calmed down from what I have seen.”
