SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter believes that there is plenty of improvement to come from his new-look septet as they continue to get their teeth into the 2016 Elite League season.

In just two meetings, Rossiter’s charges have already experienced highs and lows at both ends of the spectrum, romping to an impressive 55-35 home win over Coventry Bees just six days after being crushed 61-31 at Poole Pirates.

Both encouraging and concerning displays from his riders in the opening throes of the campaign have given the Abbey Stadium chief much to mull over and Rossiter is firm in his belief that he has a team with heaps of potential at his disposal.

“Rohan (Tungate) has not settled in yet. He’s been out of the Elite League for a few years and he’ll get better and stronger – you watch him go,” said the Robins team manager.

“We’ve got to give Tungate time to settle in and once he gets settled in, you watch him; he’ll be a little tiger.

“Nick had problems with his fuel at Poole and all he did was change his fuel (against Coventry), and you could see that it was a different Nick Morris; the Nick Morris that we all know and love.

“Josh Grajczonek was absolutely outstanding, a true professional, great rider and great guy to work with too, and that’s why I brought him back.

“There’s still a long way to go and we’ve still got to settle down. This team will get better but please don’t expect miracles now.”

This evening, the Robins travel to Wolverhampton for their second away trip of the new season and despite the West Midlands’ outfit’s seventh-placed finish in the table last term, Rossiter is expecting a tricky test at Monmore Green.

“They’re a strong team. They’re much-improved,” he said.

“Freddie (Lindgren) at number four; the averages are a bit of lottery in my opinion because there’s no way Freddie’s a number four, even if he didn’t have the best of seasons last year.

“They’ve got Kyle Howarth at reserve and (Joonas) Kylmakorpi too, and they’re all excellent around Monmore.”

Meanwhile, Swindon number three Josh Grajczonek, who is a housemate of the Wolves’ former Robins man Kyle Howarth, echoes his manager’s sentiments ahead of tonight’s clash.

Grajczonek said: “I live with Kyle, who’s one of their reserves this year, and he’s on good form at the minute.

“They’ve had a total revamp in the winter, so we can’t take anything for granted. We’ve got to build on (Thursday’s win over Coventry) and try and take that there. If you can’t get an away win, at least get some points because I think that’s going to be crucial this year.”
