JASON Doyle has paid tribute to his Swindon Robins team-mates for making the job of captaining them a delight.

The Robins skipper stole the show with a scorching 15-point maximum in Thursday’s 50-40 victory over Lakeside Hammers but those around him also came to the fore to help see off the Elite League’s current table-toppers.

The fact that his team-mates are always prepared to listen to his advice is what most pleases GP star Doyle, who thinks that Swindon’s team spirit will be the driving force behind their play-off bid this term.

“I think it’s nice to finally get some guys to work with that actually listen to what set-ups I run and if they don’t like what I say, they at least try it,” said the 30-year-old.

“I think that’s why we’ve got a really good team at the moment.

“It’s not just one rider being cocky; everyone’s working together and we’ve got a really good team spirit.

“After the first few matches, we were on a massive downer. Nobody really gave us a chance to get into our stride and now we’re getting a bit of confidence and showing what we can really do.

“I think we’re really going to show a lot of teams what we’re made of.

“(On Thursday) it was the first (maximum) for the season. It wasn’t just myself – it was a really good team effort again.

“It just shows what a good bunch of kids we’ve got and we’re really looking forward to the next one.

“Josh (Grajczonek); in two races, he came from behind and rode a stormer. He’s really getting used to this track – inside, outside – and he’s just showing what a talent he is.

“It wasn’t just him. There was Stefan (Nielsen), there was Charles (Wright); we’re all riding good at the moment and hopefully we can stay safe and have a great year.

“Stefan was really unlucky – his bike broke down when he was on a paid win with Rohan (in heat 12) and those little things can knock a kid when he’s down but hopefully Stefan keeps his head high.

“We turned up to Coventry on Monday (a 50-42 win). We all did a solid job and it just shows that if we’re all firing and all scoring seven-plus, it makes it a lot easier.”
