SWINDON Robins skipper Jason Doyle endured a tough night in Warsaw as he failed to make it into the semi-finals of the Polish Grand Prix.

Great Britain’s Tai Woffinden took the crown on the night as Doyle picked up just five points to drop him back to eighth place in the World Championship standings after just two rounds.

The Australian’s night did not go to plan, despite missing Wednesday night’s away win at Belle Vue Aces to help get over some knocks and bruises.

In heat four it was Belle Vue’s number one Matej Zagar who dusted himself off from Wednesday’s defeat at the National Stadium to take the win, with Doyle languishing in last place.

Doyle was then in the very next heat but finished behind eventual winner Woffinden and wild-card entry Patryk Dudek as he picked up his first point of the evening.

It was third place again for the 30-year-old in heat 12 as he finished ahead of Greg Hancock, who went on to claim second place, but was left behind Poole Pirate’s Chris Holder and Wolverhampton Wolves’ Fredrik Lindgren.

Doyle fell in heat 14 when former Robins number one Peter Kildemand went for a move down the inside to leave the Aussie in the dirt.

However, after Nicki Pedersen was disqualified from heat 19 for bringing down Pawlicki on lap two, Doyle held off the challenge of Andreas Jonsson and Piotr Pawlicki to claim his only win of the night.

Woffinden went on to win the final, picking up 14 points in the process, to put him into second in the overall standings, two points behind Holder who finished in fourth place in the final.

“We’re looking forward to the rest of the season and I am happy with how everything is going,” said Woffinden.

“I learnt a lot tonight and I’m going to take that forward with me. It’s going to be a long season, as it always is. But I feel like we’ve got the resources to do what we need to do.

“I feel on top of my game. I feel the mistakes I made tonight, I won’t make them again.”

The next grand prix will be held in Denmark on Saturday, June 11th.
