SWINDON Robins fell to a second defeat to Poole Pirates in the space of three days as they were comfortably beaten 50-40 at Wimborne Road.

Alun Rossiter’s side were left in the gates at the start of the meeting as Poole pulled out a 12 point lead after just three heats.

Swindon were able to reduce the deficit to four points by the end of heat six with back-to-back maximums but the Robins were unable to get back on level terms as Poole kept their visitors at an arm’s length for the remainder of the night.

The Robins, who fell to a 46-44 defeat at home to Poole just two days prior, were unchanged, while the hosts brought in Steve Worrall to guest for Adam Ellis who fractured his collarbone during Monday’s meeting.

The hosts made their intentions known from the off as Worrall hit the first bend in the lead with Chris Holder going around the outside to take pole position coming out with Poole’s guest doing well in the defensive role to keep Jason Doyle and Josh Grajczonek behind him.

Charles Wright got the start in heat two but Stefan Nielsen was overtaken by the two Poole riders in bends one and two before Wright got out of shape in bend four and Brady Kurtz and Kyle Newman took full advantage for their second maximum.

Poole had stormed into a 12 point lead by the end of heat three as Rohan Tungate got away the best but Hans Andersen, from gate one, had the inside line and lead out of bend two before Krzystof Buczkowski went underneath Tungate in bend four for second place.

Morris got the jump on the start in heat four but was squeezed out by Bjarne Pedersen and Nielsen took advantage to take the lead.

Morris was taken by Newman down the home straight of the penultimate lap for a share of the points and maintain Poole’s 12 point lead.

After Newman took the place of Worrall, who jumped the start in heat five, Grajczonek got to the first bend in the lead as Wright was squeezed out before a great move around the outside of bends three and four of lap one secured Swindon their first maximum of the evening.

Doyle got a great start in heat six and not far behind was Sedgmen, who was left battling hard with Buczkowski all the way but held on for back-to-back maximums to reduce the deficit to just four points.

The first running of heat seven was stopped as the back wheel of Andersen caught Morris and sent him into the air fence.

It was tight again going into the first bend but Holder had one wheel over the white line as he took the lead before Andersen came down the outside to take over the first place and secure a maximum to extend their lead to eight points.

Pedersen, in gate one, got away well in heat eight and Grajczonek had too much ground to make up coming over as he settled behind in second, with Wright held off Newman for a share of the spoils.

Morris was struggling but got away well in heat nine and Kurtz did well not to get tangled in his back wheel going into bend one.

Kurtz fell to the back of the pack as a result but managed to find a way past Nielsen on the back straight of lap two as the points were shared again.

It looked like a jump start in heat 10 but the referee let it go and Doyle took advantage to lead out of bend two but Grajczonek couldn't get past Andersen and Buczkowski battled to take third spot in the penultimate bend as Swindon started to run out of heats.

It was the perfect start from both Holder and Worrall in heat 11 but Tungate had enough pace out of bend two to take Worrall and split the Poole riders.

In heat 12, Nielsen got to the first bend in the lead and just did enough to keep Kurtz behind him but the Australian took the Brit on the penultimate lap, with Wright darting for the line in third to split the points.

Doyle gated well in heat 13 but Holder steamed through from the back down the back straight to take the lead.

Doyle retook the lead before crossing the line for the first time with Sedgmen fighting well for third to reduce the gap to eight points with two heats remaining.

However, Poole wrapped up the win in the penultimate heat as Buczkowski flew past Morris on the back straight of lap one and Pedersen did enough to hold off Tungate for thirs place.

Doyle won his fourth race of the night in heat 15 but it was not enough to secure a point for the visitors as Holder and Andersen followed him home.
