As Swindon Robins reach the halfway point of their Elite League campaign, team manager Alun Rossiter assesses his side's performances

WE’RE at the halfway stage of the season and I think the team as a whole has done well to date.

I always said the team would be a little bit up and down given the personnel I brought in over the winter but to get 13 points on the road for this young team is pretty good.

I don’t think anybody would have envisaged that kind of return at the beginning of the campaign. The only down side to it is that our home form has been a little bit inconsistent.

The track came into play against Wolverhampton but we had no excuses against Poole, we just didn’t ride properly in that one.

The match against Wolverhampton was a bit like a game of poker, we just showed them our cards too early, in my opinion.

Look at what happened to Poole against Belle Vue at Wimborne Road, they didn’t like the track and made it clear they didn’t like the track.

Whenever there is an issue with the track it always affects the home side more than the away side for some reason. That is something that has always been the case in speedway.

It is something the boys have learnt from and I don’t think we will be too keen in the future to show our hands even if we don’t like the track.

Jason Doyle has led by example since coming back to the club and I wasn’t sure if it would be the case because he had to recover from a massive injury after his fall in the Melbourne Grand Prix.

I don’t think people realise how big of an injury he sustained.

On top of that he has come back from another big injury this term - he is like rubber man, he just keeps bouncing back.

At the back of your mind you always wonder if they are going to be alright but Jason is such a determined character and he hates losing.

I personally still feel Nick Morris hasn’t hit the heights he should be hitting.

I don’t think it is through a lack of trying, at the moment it doesn’t seem to be working for him.

He had a couple of simple little crashes at Leicester, maybe due to a lapse in concentration or something.

It is not a criticism, but as I have said before, I would like to see more from the middle order to help take the pressure off Doyle at the top and give more freedom to the two in reserve.

When it comes to how the league is shaping up, Wolves are not surprising me.

I always thought that Wolves were a very solid team from the start of the season.

Lakeside have done what they usually do every year, they seem to get a lot of their home fixtures in early and go off like a train.

I am not sure what will happen with them towards the end, they might surprise a few people.

We just need to stick together as a group and make sure we kick on from here to secure a play-off spot and then anything can happen.
