SWINDON Robins skipper Jason Doyle failed to build on the promise of victory in his first heat as he ended down the field in the Danish Grand Prix in Horsens.

Aussie ace Doyle won heat three, ahead of eventual meeting winner Maciej Janowski, Fredrik Lindgren and former Swindon rider Peter Kildemand, but that was as good as it got for the Robins man as he picked up only four more points from his subsequent four rides.

A pair of third places in heats seven and 10 yielded him only a point each and Doyle was at the back of the field in heat 16 before bouncing back for second spot behind Piotr Pawlicki in the next.

Janowski held off a ferocious challenge from Aussie star Chris Holder to top the rostrum, with world champion Tai Woffinden bagging third place to edge top of the overall standings, level on 39 points with Holder.

Janowski is just three points behind them in fourth place on 36, with American icon Greg Hancock third with 38.

Danish star Nicki Pedersen was excluded from the final after crashing with Woffinden in the first staging of the race and was set for medical checks on his hand after suffering suspected ligament damage.

The re-run saw Janowski chased all the way by Holder, who had reached a third final in as many rounds.

Woffinden went top of the World Championship by virtue of having a higher SGP ranking than Holder following his 2015 title win.

Doyle is eighth overall on 25 points, three behind Kildemand who is two places higher, with the next round being the Czech Republic SGP at Prague’s Marketa Stadium on Saturday week DANISH SGP SCORES: 1 Maciej Janowski 16, 2 Chris Holder 13, 3 Tai Woffinden 15, 4 Nicki Pedersen 10, 5 Greg Hancock 14, 6 Antonio Lindback 10, 7 Matej Zagar 8, 8 Andreas Jonsson 8, 9 Jason Doyle 7, 10 Niels-Kristian Iversen 7, 11 Peter Kildemand 7, 12 Bartosz Zmarzlik 7, 13 Piotr Pawlicki 5, 14 Anders Thomsen 5, 15 Chris Harris 4, 16 Fredrik Lindgren 2, 17 Mikkel Bech Jensen DNR, 18 Mikkel Michelsen DNR.
