NICK Morris top-scored as the Swindon Robins beat a British League Select team in a challenge match at the Abbey Stadium last night.

Alun Rossiter’s side tuned up for tonight’s scheduled Elite League crunch clash with the Lakeside Hammers in Essex tonight with a 40-38 victory on Thursday against a side containing a clutch of top riders that compete in Britain.

Morris led with the way with a score of 11+1 for the Robins, who had Brady Kurtz guesting in place of captain and number one Jason Doyle, while Justin Sedgmen racked up three heat wins and helped clinch a decisive maximum alongside Josh Grajczonek.

Guest Kurtz also won the Bob Kilby Memorial Trophy, which was run during the second half of Thursday’s meeting, beating Morris, Rohan Tungate and Sedgmen in the final.

In the league, Rossiter’s side are due to travel to the Hammers tonight (8pm start) for a straight shoot-out to decide who clinches the final Elite League play-off berth.

Swindon will secure fourth-spot with a losing point but a defeat by a margin of more than six points on the night will see Essex outfit Lakeside pip them and progress into the end-of-season shake-up.
