STEFAN Nielsen’s home is safely within Swindon Robins’ nest after the club signed the 21-year-old as an asset from Coventry Bees.

The two-time British U19 champion rode at reserve for Alun Rossiter’s side this term and ended the season with an average of 3.78.

Meanwhile, Swindon’s Nick Morris and Rohan Tungate will compete to be crowned king of the Elite League at tonight’s Elite League Riders’ Championship.

The two Australians will take on Grand Prix stars such as Niels-Kristian Iversen, Chris Holder and Freddie Lindgren, who helped Wolverhampton Wolves overcome Belle Vue Aces in this week’s Grand Final, while the likes of Scott Nicholls, Robert Lambert and Craig Cook will also be in action at Coventry’s Brandon home (7.30pm start).

Robins’ Morris, who endured a mixed campaign as his side missed out on the play-offs, is determined to end the year on a positive note.

He said: “It hasn’t really been my year but hopefully I can go well and head into the winter on a high.

“I haven’t really been on the bike for three weeks so it won’t be easy but I’ll give it my best and see if I can get in the mix.

“It would be nice to go in with some momentum behind me, so fingers crossed things go well and I can have a good one.”

n ROBINS number one Jason Doyle will have surgery on his shattered right elbow on Tuesday as he continues to recover from the injuries that cruelly wrecked his world title bid.

The Aussie turned 31 on Thursday whilst laid in hospital in Torun, Poland, where he picked up lung, shoulder and elbow injuries in a crash during the penultimate Grand Prix of the season seven days ago.

Doyle is only 11 points behind series leader Greg Hancock but will be unable to contest the final round in Melbourne on October 22.

Posting on his Facebook page, Doyle said: “(On Wednesday), I had drain removed from left lung, so now I can sleep better and move around more.

“On Tuesday, I will have my right elbow operated on in Torun. I am now able to walk around which is helping my lungs. so all in all...life throws curve balls gotta learn to deal with it!

“Three months I can’t fly so might have a holiday in Norfolk feed a few cows go potato farming it’s all not bad! (sic).”
