SWINDON Robins team chief Alun Rossiter insists he is comfortable with the process of building a team for the 2017 season but has questioned whether the sport’s revamp in Britain has seen ‘vested interests’ rather than the good of speedway win out.

French rider David Bellego has become the third member of the 2017 Blunsdon line-up, joining skipper Jason Doyle and British youngster Adam Ellis in next year’s team as Rossiter tries to shape a competitive force for the new-look SGB Premiership.

A stringent 50-point limit means that while top-flight newcomers Rye House have already been able to ink in Great Britain aces Scott Nicholls and Chris Harris and Australian speedster Davey Watt to their plans, for Rossiter, it’s been more of a case of who he cannot include.

None of Greg Zengota, Peter Kildemand and Mads Korneliussen, as well as 2016 riders Justin Sedgmen and Stefan Nielsen, plus Somerset’s Josh Grajczonek and Rohan Tungate, will return to Swindon next year due the changes and Rossiter admitted: “It isn’t easy with the way the format is at the moment.

“I wasn’t at the (British Speedway) AGM so I can’t really comment too much but sometimes, it is other people’s vested interests that come into play. We will soon see how it is going (with all top-flight clubs), but I’m comfortable with how things are (at Swindon).’’ Rossiter is pleased with Bellego’s capture, admitting the 2016 Redcar Bears rider of the year needed little persuasion to come to the Robins.

“He’s just a rider I’ve always been a big fan of and I think he’s ready to make that step up,’’ said Rossiter.

“The other thing was that he was mega-keen on coming. It’s always nice when you sign riders who want to come to the club.

“I’ve got a lot of belief in him. He made the breakthrough (racing) in Denmark a bit last year and he’s done really well. I’m hoping he will go on to the next level now.’’
