SWINDON Robins’ newest arrival Adam Ellis has said his relationship with Alun Rossiter played a big part in him joining the side.

The 20-year-old, who joins on a one-year deal, almost became a Robin last term and wants to help them have a more successful campaign next year after narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

“Last season, I was pretty close to coming to Swindon so when Rossiter called and said that he wanted me, it was pretty cool. I’ve always got on with him,” said the 20-year-old.

“I think, last year, they’d be disappointed with because they have always been quite successful, especially over recent years.

“They always seem to make the play-offs and be competitive, so I know they’ll be disappointed with last year where they missed out.”

The Brit is arriving at the club with an open mind and is expecting to play a large part in Rossiter’s plans for the season.

“I don’t like to set too many goals. This past year was an awesome one and I said I wanted to be in the main body of the team and I did, and then the world cup reserve spot was a bonus,” said Ellis, who carries an average of 7.84.

“Next year, I’m coming in as a heat leader. The league is going to be a lot weaker than how it was last year, so I’m hoping I can maintain the heat leader role for next year.

“I’m looking forward to it. Rosco talked me through his plans for the season, which was good, and hopefully we can bring some silverware back.”
