SWINDON Robins have completed their 2017 rider roster by recruiting Danish rookie Mikkel Brondum Andersen for the coming SGB Premiership campaign.

Brondum Andersen is the second young Dane to put pen to paper on a deal with the Robins this week following the signing of Emil Grondal by team manager Alun Rossiter on Tuesday.

Although the 20-year-old has limited experience of riding in the UK, Brondum Andersen is a bright prospect for the future and helped Denmark secure a bronze medal at this year’s U21 World Cup.

Brondum Andersen said: “It’s a dream, I have always wanted to ride in the Elite League and this will be my first time. I have ridden a little bit in the UK before so hopefully that will help me.

“It was a quite quick negotiation. I finished my apprenticeship this year and I was ready to come to England, so I was really happy to get this chance when I got the call from Swindon.

“It will be my first time riding at the Swindon track next year but I am looking forward to it. I am riding in Denmark as well next year and I need all the experience I can get.

“Hopefully I can score some good points and do well for Swindon. I can’t wait to get started.”

Grand Prix star Jason Doyle will again skipper the Swindon side next season, with fellow Aussie Nick Morris the only other member of their 2016 septet to be retained.

British teenager Zach Wajtknecht was also unveiled alongside Grondal earlier this week as part of a double swoop by Swindon, with fellow Brit Adam Ellis and Frenchman David Bellego also new arrivals for next year.

Brondum Andersen hopes the presence of countryman Grondal in the Robins ranks will help both men settle as quickly as possible at the Abbey Stadium and is looking forward to tapping into the expertise of World Championship challenger Doyle.

“I know Emil well, he is one of my good friends so it’s going to be great to be in the team together. It is so much better when you go to a team and there is someone else there that you know,” he added.

“Jason is one of the best riders in the world. I was really happy to know that he had signed because I can talk to him and hopefully get some advice.

“He is a great guy and he has a lot of experience so hopefully he can teach me a few things.”
