ADAM Ellis hopes his recent resurgence in form will be enough to fire Great Britain into the U21 World Cup final when he competes in Germany today.

After a slow start to his career at the Abbey Stadium, things have looked slightly brighter for the young Brit after picking up 18 points in the European Pairs last weekend and seven in Swindon’s 52-41 loss to King’s Lynn on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the semi-finals, which are taking place in Spocking, Ellis is hoping a new found confidence could make all of the difference going into the meeting.

“It seems to be getting better, I seem to be getting there slowly so that isn’t too bad,” said Ellis, who joined the Robins from Poole Pirates at the beginning of the season.

“We are all hoping that we can get good results, get to the final and then just see how it goes. “I think we have a pretty good chance, we have the best team that we have had for a couple of years now.

“Confidence makes a big difference. Normally it takes a couple of meeting to get it back up to what it as before, but I am getting there slowly.

“Even on Wednesday I felt better. I got seven points which isn’t great but it is much better than what I had been doing.

“Last weekend was a really weekend and I am on the same bike as that so hopefully I can do the same again.” Britain have been handed a small boost as Russia have pulled out of the semi-final, leaving them to compete with Australia, Germany and a second German team.

The winner of the semi-final will gain an automatic place in the final, while the team who finish second will have to wait for the result from the other semi-final to see who progresses.

“Now that Russia have pulled out there is a second German team, they shouldn’t be as good as the Russians so hopefully we can get some results,” added Ellis.

“It is like any other meeting, you have to try and avoid last place. It is going to be tough because everyone is trying to qualify.

“Australia have got a strong team but we have come out here wanting to win so that is what we are going to try and do.”
