BLUNSDON hero Leigh Adams will make his 500th appearance in Robins colours tonight on an historic evening for the club.

The Aussie is due to reach the milestone against visitors Belle Vue in the Elite League, 60 years to the day since the Abbey Stadium witnessed its first ever competitive speedway meeting.

But the Robins captain played down the significance of his personal achievement, insisting he will only admire such statistics when he hangs up his kevlars in the future.

“I’m not fazed about it, it’s probably going to mean a lot more when I’m finished,” he said.

“At the moment I’m focused on trying to win races for Swindon.

“I’ll just keep grinding away and try and get the best out of myself and the team.”

Adams suffered World Cup disappointment with Australia last weekend and admitted he was looking forward to getting back into Elite League racing tonight.

And he will do so alongside Croatian youngster Jurica Pavlic, who returns to the fold following a 28-day ban.

“We need him to win the league,” said Adams.

“We did really well without him but he’s a great talent and he’s definitely going to be an asset to the team.”

Swindon face their second meeting in 24 hours on Friday when they travel to bogey side Lakeside.
