FOUR days, two meetings and dropped points in both.

Swindon’s clash with Coventry on Monday may have been superb entertainment for the speedway neutral, but for Robins manager Ronnie Russell, the visit to Brandon probably left him feeling distinctly empty.

To surrender a lead of 13 points was a remarkable capitulation and had Swindon taken nothing at all there would have been hell to pay.

Fast-forward to last night at Eastbourne, and the Robins were eight points up after five heats.

But alarmingly, three races later the lead was gone, and Swindon ended up with an Elite League point when three, or even four had looked a possibility earlier.

Unfortunately for one of Swindon’s riders in particular, the numbers don’t lie.

Grzegorz Zengota, such a useful operator at the Abbey Stadium, is costing the Robins hugely away from home, due to his lack of experience on British tracks and inability to adapt quickly.

However exciting he may be in Wiltshire, one point at Arlington was a poor return for a rider who started the season on a five-point average.

And it’s not the first time he has struggled away from Blunsdon, as is borne out by the numbers.

The Pole has scored an average of 1.64 points in his opening six away meetings, nearly two points worse than Morten Risager, who is admittedly more experienced but has still taken a lot of the flak for Swindon’s underwhelming start to the season.

Of course as a relative newbie, Zengota needs time to fulfil his obvious talent, and he will get it.

But with the Robins hierarchy looking to make changes, others might not be so lucky.
