JAZZ Carlin will kick off her World Short Course Championships campaign today when she takes to the pool in the 800m freestyle in Doha.

The heats take place this morning at the Hamad Aquatic Centre before this afternoon’s final.

Carlin has the third fastest qualifying time in the field with an 8mins 12.01secs clocking, behind Spain’s two-time Olympic silver medalist Mireya Belmonte and Katinka Hosszu of Hungary.

The Swindon-born star is looking to round off a successful year with a global medal having already struck gold at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Carlin, 24, became the first Welshwoman to win Commonwealth gold in the pool for 40 years when she claimed the 800m freestyle title in Glasgow in late July.

She swiftly followed that up with silver medal over 400m and completed a double triumph in the same events at the Euros in Berlin just a fortnight later.

Carlin will also compete in the heats of the 400m and 200m free in Doha on Friday and Sunday respectively.
