JAZZ Carlin has her sights firmly set on the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as she takes to the pool at the British Championships today.

The 24-year-old goes in the 400m freestyle at the London Aquatics Centre this afternoon before also taking part in the 800m freestyle on Thursday and the 200m freestyle on Saturday.

The Swindon-born swimmer has enjoyed a good start to the season and is looking to secure a ‘tough’ World Championship qualifying time.

“Last year was incredible for me and I was over the moon with how I swam then, but it is now about moving that forward and building on that,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to trials and hopefully it will be a good event in London.

“It’s the Olympic pool, so it’s an incredible venue and just swimming there will be great.

“The trials are all about trying to qualify for the World Championships, and the times that British Swimming have put out are really tough times this year.

“It’s definitely a tough standard to make, but I do love a challenge the times are definitely achievable.

“So you have to make sure you are racing the clock to get the best time and get yourself on the team list, and I’m excited for it.”

Carlin started training with new head coach David McNulty at the British Gas National Centre in Bath last December as she cranks up her preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Over the winter the Tigersharks swimmer has worked on her technique to make her stronger and kicked off her season with a win in the 800m freestyle at the Flanders Speedo Cup in Antwerp.

Carlin added: “I’ve been working on a number of things to try and get better. I’ve done a lot on my turns and work on the power side of things which has been a weakness of mine in the past."
