SWINDON’S Jazz Carlin couldn’t follow up her win in the 400m freestyle on Friday with success in the 800m freestyle as Europe fell to defeat against the United States in the Duel in the Pool.

Carlin had given the European team five valuable points on the first day of the two-day competition as she, Hali Flickinger and Lotte Friis, with Europe looking to haul back a 26-point deficit going into the second day.

However, the Tigersharks swimmer was unable to add to her points tally on Saturday as she came last in her second event.

Europe’s Friis had led the race for the first half before American Leah Smith took the lead and never relinquished it, finishing in a time of 8mins 10.03secs.

Behind her was Europe’s Boglarka Kapas and American Becca Mann took the last point as the US claimed a comprehensive 48-point win over Europe to remain unbeaten in the competition.
