Should be a good game, under the lights to which always adds to the atmosphere. 3 points for us tonight would be fantastic :)

My only concern is that ONCE AGAIN we end up shooting to the Town End in the 1st half! Not sure why but i just hate it being that way round!

Funny after all these years being a supporter I also still hate when they kick off against the Town end in first half.
Hope all goes well and he plays the same starting team with the exception of Williams /injured feel Macca should get another shout with Chris martin starting also would be nice to see Storey on the bench.Still Pdc is the BOSS and no doubt will field the team he feels will WIN

Easy to overreact to this but you win some and lose some. Players have good and bad games. I still think that we have plenty of players here who can make sure we are there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

And if we do miss out, so what, we are in the process of unearthing of good crop of young players. Storey, the Thompsons, and many more waiting in the wings. Add to that the return of a fit Team captain with some Championship experience (ie Caddis) and we will be well set to finish the job next year.

I say, keep up the good work Paul and let's build for the future.

Absolutely Grim - too much corporate red wine methinks -and you & I are in agreement re Collins, I posted on Saturday after all the euphoria about his two goals against Yeovil, that Brentford game would show whether he could cut it - he can't! Him & Roberts can share the Taxi. Donaldson best player on the park for me.
To be fair thought we shaded first half and their keeper made a couple of great saves - 2nd half back to hoofball - lost shape when Ferry went off - young Storey needs to learn to hold the ball up until we have players in the box to release it to but he's still learning. Devera another good game and my mom again. Nathan did ok even if Paolo did blame him for the goal and acknowledged as much in his interview.

Gutted, we fell asleep for the goal (their only shoot on target). Once again a team has come for a point and nicked a goal.

First time I think I have seen two players booked for time wasting, shocking, the Ref should have booked the keeper far earlier than he did (first 5 minutes would have put a stop to it).

We have to score first against these teams, simple as. Winger with pace that will take players on and put in a decent cross please.

Paolo is right. We have to believe him. We aren't going to do anything this season. Far too inconsistent. You never know what Swindon side will come out of the tunnel. We could have done ourselves some good tonight with a win, but, we never really threatened apart from a couple of goal mouth scrambles.

Fully expect Ritchie to go in the Jan window. Not been the same this season without Caddis.

Another disappionting home performance I have to say. Another one to forget.

Such a disappointment after last couple of games. Started badly then last 15-20 mins of first half we started to play a bit and created some chances and couple of good saves from their keeper. 2nd half we were awful, back to hoofball, and when we did play football it was sideways and then backwards for another hoof! Nathan played ok apart from goal, defended well. jay defended well which i guess is why he got MOM but distribution poor. Ward and Dev were solid again and didn't give anything away and were rarely troubled. Roberts was awful again after 2 better displays, gave ball away time and time again and such a bottler in the tackle. Ritchie was poor as well, many poor deliveries but actually 2 excellent ones with his wrong foot that created our best chances. Ferry was not at best but still cant understand why he was taken off, always our best hope to get it down and pass it. I think Bostock should have started and he tried to pass it when on. Hollands was largely anonymous bar one good passage in first half but too early to judge him. Collins had one good effort saved but generally a poor game. People around me were slating Martin but to me he looks a very good player, great touch, very strong, holds ball up well, plays it simple, won plenty in air as well. Last 20 he faded but then he is not match fit. I think people will eat their words if they think he's rubbish. I also am pretty sure it was Storey who missed the header and he had some poor touches when on but not going to slate the young lad who clearly has pace and potential. I thought the difference tonight was that the opposition looked like a team and we looked like a collection of individuals. It's no good bemoaning the fact that they had one chance and scored. They were playing away from home at what I am sure they would describe as "a difficult place to come". We would be delighted with the same sort of performance on the road from our boys.
.
Douglas strolled around the pitch, mopping up and in control of things while hardly breaking sweat.
.
Yet again, we were lumping the ball up for our forwards, expecting them to compete for it with two lighthouses. True, Collins was ineffective but the service to him and Martin from midfield was almost non-existent. We are supposed to have a squad of decent quality players, so why the reluctance to play football?
.
Agree with Grim and Malk on man of the match. I sometimes wonder what game the sponsors are watching.

Credit to Brentford they played well the game could have gone either way really. Donaldson was a right handful throughout, very strong and won most headers and a good finish. Just the sort of player we could do with.....

Thought we actually did OK, although wondered if we may regret not scoring when domainant at end of 1st half.

Paolo very measured on interview, referred to 4 players not performing but kept himself in check and didn't name names which was nice to hear.

Suspect though he was referring to Roberts, Collins, and probably Ferry and Ritchie.

Have said before I'm not impressed with Roberts, and I haven't changed my opinion despite slightly improved performances and still scared to death of a challenge.

Danny Ward and Hal Robson Kanu the benchmark for me of good league 1 wingers, and Roberts, De Vita, Luke Rooney are simply not of the same quality as those players. Ritchie is as good on his day, but is a bit less consistent at this level imo.

Darren Ward lost one header tonight and unfortunately it led to a goal. Suggest though we sign him up in Jan and I would make him captain right now. Devera playing very well too, he is playing very consistently.

Stigger,

I said at half time that we didn't want the half to end. Felt we were well on top at that point and it was ony a matter of time.

I thought Collins did well, given the service, and he was only denied by a superb reflex save by the keeper. After he went off I felt we missed his aerial ability, Miles is quick but will not (yet) compete with defenders in the air, (the yeovil centre pair would have had him for breakfast which explains (to me) why he was not named in the squad).

Nathan did well, except for the goal, and kept their winger largely in his pocket. Devera and Ward solid, no wild lunges so can't see a return for Flint immenent.

We seem to switch off occassional, again tonight, after a substitution. Collins goes off, 1 minute later goal down. It was the same against another team, Scunthorpe I think, something to work on ?

Pondered the Ferry substitution, was it giving him a break or was the cynical Douglas challenge a contributing factor !

Still top six and very very very tight up there, mid January will give us an idea whether top six is on.

I hope so.

I also am pretty sure it was Storey who missed the header and he had some poor touches when on but not going to slate the young lad who clearly has pace and potential. Not going to comment on Rooney!!! Lets hope the away form continues on sat. COYR![/p][/quote]Stigger, I said at half time that we didn't want the half to end. I hope so. COYMR Oxon-Red

Not our best display by a very long way. Hoofball, hoofball, hoofball and it doesn't win games or do anything other than give the ball to the other team to play back at you giving them more possession and us more pressure around our goal.
Not the fault of the players they are merely playing to the managers orders.

So towards the end of the first half, we get the ball on the ground and play football and had our best period of play through the whole game, pressure on their goal and quite a few corners as well, again pressure on their goal, and on balance perhaps a bit unlucky not to score.

Second half, more and more hoof, hoof it here, there, anywhere. Did our manager not spot they have two tall centre backs who seemed to rise above our guys, time and time and time again. So that tells me that yet once more we were tactically inept. You cannot blame the players for that as they MUST do as they are told.

Bewildering, Ferry, although not at his best, gets subbed, and after that no play making in the middle, oh no, lets play hoof ball, tippy tappy stuff no good because it leads to constructive periods of play when we have the ball and they don't. Without the ball they cannot score, yet our Premiership manager as he calls himself(LOL) wants hoof ball. No wonder we are not winning games, and you cannot blame the players, as they are merely following instructions, and don't forget this is a budget busting team so the players are fine. To me they look burnt out, and after half time looked jaded and a yard short on performance, fit or burnt out, the latter looked more like it, and Ward up front at the end as our forwards were shot. Hollands was KO'd at half time , what a waste of three possible points. Not going up this season ??? I think with decent tactics this season is still up for grabs, we have the players, new tactics needed. The players I can cut slack, but the manager decides the tactics, he needs a new book.

Wizard,

Did you hear the Brentford chants very early in the match ?

"We are Barcelona, We are Barcelona, We are Barcelona of the lower leagues"

We lost one nil to Barcelona, a team that also played many many high long balls due to our tactics of closing the ball down high. We could try playing out of defence, as you want us to, but teams don't give the opponents time on the ball at the back any more.

Playing the ball out the way Barca do requires players of very very good techical ability and they are not going to be playing in League 1. We could try maybe but I suspect we would be closer to Hartlepool than Sheff Utd.

I believe we do try to play football on the floor but only when it is safe to do so i.e. in the opponents half or if they allow us to from the back. Easy to be critical of our hoofing but has another League 1 side come to the CG and not played similarly ?

Chris Martin looked lively on Saturday. Play like that again and he should get his first goal tonight. 60 mins of Martin followed by 30 mins of Storey should be awesome
Well err no -wasn't was it? People are expecting far too much too soon from Storey who despite showing electrifying pace and ability is still raw behind the ears and learning his craft. He is a fine prospect but cannot be relied to be the panacea that cures all our ills, the main ones being we don't have a dominant enough midfield and our woeful strikers particularly Collins -TAXI!

I'm pleased that one myth has been destroyed already this season - that we were going to find loads of space to play football at this level. Football is an athletic game. Yes, the higher up the ladder you get, the more football is played, but it also gets more physical. Players are fitter and stronger in the Premier League than they are at any other level. I think at times we struggle to match the increased athleticism that we are finding on stepping up a level this season.
.
Brentford gave a good compact team performance while we floundered as individuals. I was also disappointed that the longer the game went on the bigger the gap became. They seemed to get stronger late in the game while we wilted and resorted more and more to those desperate hacks towards their box.
.
Oxon, I think you do Brentford a disservice. They tried to play much more than we did. And there are other teams who have come here and done the same. Colchester played it out from the back while we hoofed it, and they beat us deservedly. Coventry also gave us a football lesson and had us chasing shadows for much of the game. Even Macclesfield played the ball on the deck more than we did.
.
I have to say I find it disappointing that we have stepped up a level and are playing worse football than last season. But all is not lost. If PDC can get Hollands and Martin (should have buried that chance) fully fit, there is every chance they can be the key to a promotion charge. But watch out for Brentford - and Coventry.
