SWINDON Town boss Mark Cooper is hoping to deliver fans the perfect Christmas gift when they travel to Walsall tomorrow.

After an early training session this morning, which included mince pies and a glass of brandy for the players, Cooper’s side will travel to the Bescot tomorrow hoping to wrap up Christmas with three points.

With a festive feel around the pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning, Cooper was asked what he would like to give Swindon Town fans this Christmas.

“It’s easy isn’t it? I’d give them three points on Boxing Day and three points against Port Vale to finish what would be a remarkable calendar year in terms of points per games,” he said.

“There is always something special about the Boxing Day Games and it is made even better if you get three points.

“It is a big occasion that the supporters seem to like and good crowds and a good atmosphere.”

Many of the Town squad who live locally will be celebrating Christmas today with their families, but the handful with families further afield like Michael Smith or Harry Toffolo will be enjoying a meal together.

Cooper appreciates that it is not the easiest of times for a footballer but hopes that they will get their rewards come the end of the season.

“I haven’t got too many worries about the group and how they are going to behave over Christmas,” added Cooper.

“They understand that it is not a time for them to celebrate and relax, their time comes in the spring and summer when they get their break.

“I am sure they will spend time with their families where they can and be ready for training on Christmas Day and the game on Boxing Day.

“It is a big sacrifice but hopefully one that will be worthwhile.”
