A GREAT day’s racing is in prospect at Newbury this afternoon with a seven-race programme, prize money of £288,000 on offer and guest appearances by trickshot specialists Paul Barrington and John Virgo.

The Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes is the feature race, together with the John Smiths’ Stakes - run over one mile and two furlongs - plus the Group 3 Duty Free World Trophy over five furlongs, which has attracted some smart sprinters. The six-furlong Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes has some high profile two-year-olds at the entry stage, including Angel’s Pursuit for the Wiltshire yard of Richard Hannon.

Manton trainer Brian Meehan will be hoping for a good run from his charge Radiohead, while trainer Mark Johnston will be looking for Awzaan to extend his unbeaten record.

It’s a competitive race, but a tentative selection is for Richard Hannon to continue his excellent season with Angel’s Pursuit.

Kieran Fallon, who has been chalking up the winners since his recent return, could land the John Smith’s Stakes on board the Jeremy Noseda-trained Royal Destination, with Class Is Class from the Sir Michael Stoute yard and Antinori likely dangers.

The Dubai Duty Free World Trophy could go to the William Haggas-trained Triple Aspect, the mount of Ryan Moore.

As well as top class racing, the afternoon will see sporting entertainment from Paul Barrington, former World Golf Trick Shot Champion and twice British Golf Long Drive Champion, and former snooker champion John Virgo, who will also be entertaining the crowd with a trick shot or two.

A sports bar with live music from popular local band The Steelers, will provide the soundtrack to the day, with hits from across the decades.
