PAOLO Di Canio is closing in on a new striker with the Town boss set to meet James Constable tonight to discuss a move to Swindon.

The Italian is determined to bring in an experienced frontman to lead his line and he may have found that player in Oxford United's Constable.

Swindon had a bid rejected for the Malmesbury-born forward last week but it is understood that they renewed their interest with a fresh bid earlier this week, which has since been accepted.

"Oxford United Football Club can confirm they have received a much improved offer from Swindon Town Football Club for James Constable and after discussions with the player have given permission for him to talk to the club," read a statement from Oxford.

Should talks go well Constable could be a Robin by this weekend’s game against Macclesfield.

"I hope to have someone very soon. Someone not so far from here," said Di Canio.

"I hope we are close but until I see a signature I don't want to say anymore."

Meanwhile, Ronan Murray is set to return to Swindon on loan for the rest of the season.

The striker is close to agreeing a one-year deal with Ipswich, but will spend the rest of the current campaign at the County Ground.
