SWINDON TOWN: The man with the Swindon tattoo
SWINDON Town Football Club is set to become a permanent part of Paolo Di Canio as he intends to keep his promise and have the club’s crest tattooed on his body.
The Italian famously has the badge of former club West Ham etched on his upper left arm along with a host of other tattoos, and earlier in the season promised he would add the Town crest if he and his team could go on and secure the League Two title.
They did that in style with an emphatic 5-0 victory at home to Port Vale on Saturday following a superb season, and Di Canio is ready to keep his promise, although it will have to wait a few weeks after he recently had a tattoo on his chest in the memory of his father Ignazio.
“I will keep my promise and go through with this,” he said.
“Maybe not now because I have just had a tattoo on my chest for my father, and I need to let my chest recover.
“But I will do this because for me every promise I make is more important than a contract, and one day in the next few weeks I will have a Swindon tattoo.
“But from now I do not make any more promises because I hope to win a lot of trophies and I cannot tattoo my body every time because I will run out of space.”
The Italian said he would be proud to have the club’s badge inked on him, just as he is still proud to have the Hammers’ crest on his arm.
“I promised at the beginning because someone said to me I have a West Ham tattoo, because I am still a West Ham fan,” he said.
“The fans asked me what I would do if we won the league and I said I would get the Swindon badge.
“I am very happy and proud to keep my promise because it means that after the game on Saturday everyone has to call us champions, and that is what we wanted all along.”
