I don't think he was short changed last year - he was in his first real season as a pro and was not ready to challenge for a starting spot - hardly anyone said they wanted him as our main striker last pre-season or August! . He was therefore, loaned out to gain experince - like lots of young players are - and it worked he came back better . I agree with Wiz as I have said above strange move and doesn't smack ambition . I think he should have gone into PdC office and said I don't want to go out on loan this year I want to be part of the main group and fight for a place - can you guarantee me that . The answer probably would have been yes - he could have then signed and developed . If it had been no - then he would have been justifed in leaving as he was obviously not in our plans full stop
He was short changed. I don't see the point in loaning out a good young prospect to gain experience out only to bring in another young loanee to gain experience, especially when he's not as good as the player you're loaning out!...

I think this is a good move for BB and I hope he makes a great success of it and we've a 50% sell on clause.
Well Ipswich were paying Murrays wages, shipping Bodin out got one wage off the books that allowed us to bring in the likes of Benson. We had to keep within the tight 55% wage cap. Don't think the decision was made on ability alone. Bodin was dispensible as he actually did not grab his chance to cement a regular start. He was wanted by other clubs, so it made sense to me if he wasn't going to be playing regular to get experience elsewhere."

Swindon Town striker closing in on Torquay switch

Billy Bodin Billy Bodin

SWINDON striker Billy Bodin is close to finalising his proposed switch to Torquay as the two clubs are near to agreeing a fee for the 20-year-old, the Advertiser understands.

Bodin, who enjoyed a spell on loan at Plainmoor last term, has been on Gulls manager Martin Ling’s wish-list for some time and Ling is believed to have submitted several bids for his services during the off-season.

An offer of around £40,000 is understood to have been turned down by Town around 10 days ago, but the Adver has learnt that the two clubs are close to settling for a fee in the region of £70,000.

Bodin, who has interested several clubs across League One and League Two this summer, appears to be surplus to Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio’s plans for the coming campaign – despite having been offered a new deal with the Robins.

The Welshman did not travel to Italy with the rest of the first-team squad on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Town began their pre-season tour of Italy yesterday.

The team flew to Verona from Gatwick before transferring to their hotel on the edge of Lake Garda.

The Robins will spend a fortnight in Di Canio’s native country and play two matches – one on Thursday of this week and the other next Wednesday.
