Turnbull voted Adver Player of the Year

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season at the County Ground while on loan from Premier League side Southampton and played a key role as Swindon push for promotion from League One.

Centre back Turnbull has been a lynchpin at the heart of the Town defence this term, making 51 appearances so far in all competitions. He has found the net once, with his late header earning a 3-3 draw in last month’s entertaining clash at home to Walsall.

Turnbull succeeds Nathan Thompson in lifting the prize, with the Swindon captain having won the award in each of the past two seasons, and joins the likes of Town legends Don Rogers, John Trollope and Colin Calderwood on the illustrious list of previous winners.

Turnbull polled 33.3 per cent of the votes submitted by Adver readers, narrowly beating off competition from runner-up Ben Gladwin, with the midfielder claiming 29.6 per cent.

Australian international midfielder Massimo Luongo and wing-back Nathan Byrne shared third place.

The Adver were denied the chance to present Turnbull with his prize or speak to the defender about his triumph.

Carol Taylor of Okus, Swindon, has been named as the winner of the £50 prize open to Adver readers who voted for the award.
