NATHAN Thompson’s hopes of leading his side out at Wembley have not been completely dashed, even though a scan has revealed a grade two hamstring tear.

Thompson limped off from Monday’s madcap play-off semi-final second leg victory over Sheffield United, injuring his leg whilst stretching to make a set of crucial defensive headers in the second half and was later seen leaving the County Ground on crutches.

Reports emerged yesterday confirming the Town skipper had sustained a significant hamstring injury.

The Advertiser understands Thompson is rated ‘touch and go’ to make the Wembley showpiece, but has refused to rule himself out.

Town are known to be doing everything possible to get their leader out on the pitch against Preston.

The Advertiser sought the counsel of a respected physiotherapist who, from the limited details available, said that recovery from that degree of hamstring injury was possible, despite the short period available, but it should be considered “tight timeframe”.
