ANDY Williams is believed to have turned down a move to Scunthorpe United as speculation over the former Swindon Town striker’s next club continues to mount.

Williams, 28, was released by Town following the conclusion of the League One season and has been linked with a number of clubs throughout the summer.

The Iron appeared to be leading the way for his signature but it is now thought that Williams has rejected the opportunity to head to Glanford Park.

The Former Yeovil Town man still has several suitors though, with fellow League One outfits Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers both also believed to be interested in his services.

Williams scored 22 times for Town last season and enjoyed an impressive return to the County Ground after he suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury while out on loan at Yeovil during the 2013-14 campaign.

In a farewell statement released on the club’s official website yesterday, Williams delivered a heartfelt tribute to the Town faithful.

“I would like to thank everyone at Swindon Town for an amazing rollercoaster of three years at the club,” said Williams.

“Thank you to all the staff from top to bottom for looking after me through one of the trickiest periods of my career and helping me develop as a player and a person.

“Thanks to all the playing staff for helping me achieve all that I did on the pitch while at the club and making every day a pleasure to go to work.

“Most importantly, thank you to all the fans that supported me over the last three years.

“Swindon will always hold a place in my heart, not least as the birth place of my first child. I wish everyone at Swindon all the very best in the future.”
