CALNE Town Council have permitted Swindon Town to use the Beversbrook Sports Facility for up to three years.

The ratification from Calne Council does not settle where Town will be training next season, but it does appear to move Beversbrook to the top of the list.

The club are set to make a decision on the Calne site or another facility, thought to be Colerne military base, ahead of the start of their pre-season training next week.

Should Town opt for Beversbrook they have been given permission to use it until 2018.

Town will pay £20,000 up front annually to use the community, an agreement Calne Council see as a good revenue stream.

Town Clerk Linda Roberts said: “There’s no financial risk to the town council.

“The town council will benefit financially £20k and that will offset the delay in the all-weather pitch.”

Swindon Town have previously used Beversbrook to train, most recently in the run-up to this season’s play-offs, where they paid on a pay-as-you-play basis.

At last night’s meeting, Beversbrook facility manager, Kevin Whitehorn, said the club had always left the pitches immaculate and were happy to use different areas around the facility as directed.

In a report written by Whitehorn, it states that the football club would look to install portable cabins, at no cost to the Calne Council, behind the proposed area of the overflow car park.

The portable cabins, which would be subject to planning permission, would house a gym, rehab room, offices, a boot room and an area to provide the players with refreshment.

The base would serve as a temporary stopgap whilst the club identify and construct a permanent training ground, with the Robins currently considering eight locations in the borough.
