BURY manager David Flitcroft praised his team’s ‘resilience in abundance’ as they held firm against Swindon Town’s late resurgence on Saturday.

The Shakers took full advantage of Town’s poor first-half display at the County Ground to take a 2-0 lead courtesy of a brace from striker Hallam Hope, with the hosts’ Jonathan Obika also seeing a goal controversially chalked off for offside.

Obika would go on to pull a goal back for Swindon just past the hour mark and from then on, Swindon rapped at the Bury door for the final third of the contest, but to no avail.

Gigg Lane boss Flitcroft was chuffed to see his team dig deep and refuse to be ‘broken’ by Town’s style of play to claim three points and continue their impressive start to the season.

“I thought (the) first half was possession for possession’s sake and we took full advantage. We deservedly went two goals in front,” said Flitcroft.

“I don’t know if there is another team like them in the league. There is a real education that has been going on a long time, an acceptance that that is the way they are going to play.

“Second half, we didn’t have the answers to cope with the way that they played and the way they moved the ball and caused us problems.

“It mentally tries to break you, the way that they play. You have to stay strong. They are looking for one player to switch off so there’s a weakness.

“At 2-1, we were holding on but this team has resilience in abundance. They put their bodies on the line for the club, the supporters and each other.

“When you have that, it can spread. I am absolutely delighted with the three points.

“It’s been a good day but we can’t get carried away with a good win down at Swindon.”
