SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams has conceded it is almost inevitable that interest will rise in Lawrence Vigouroux should the goalkeeper continue his fine run of form.

Vigouroux produced the latest in a long line of stellar performances this term at Southend United on Tuesday night, with a flurry of excellent late stops ensuring Town clung on for a point in a 1-1 draw.

Williams confirmed Town have received no contact from other clubs for their number one at present, although he is well aware that could change before the transfer window re-opens in January.

The 23-year-old only signed for Swindon over the summer from Premier League side Liverpool, having also spent the 2015-16 campaign on loan at the County Ground, but Williams would not be surprised if potential suitors soon arose.

“That performance was outstanding and I think there has been plenty of other performances similar that is going to attract attention,” said Williams, ahead of this afternoon’s match at home to Bradford City in League One.

“We don’t want Lawrence to have to have that type of game every week but it is fantastic that we have got that.

“People talk in the stands and ask questions and once you start getting lots of questions on one player, you know that he is probably on someone’s report sheet somewhere in somebody else’s office and he is being monitored.

“It’s just speculation for us when people are asking questions.

“We have seen the likes of Wes Foderingham here and how excellent he was. That drew attention and ultimately, a club came and took Wes and gave him an excellent contract.

“With this type of performance, which is similar to the type of performance we saw from Wes, we know that it is obvious that somebody will come knocking.”

Should Vigouroux be prized away from Town, Williams expects the club to swiftly seek a replacement.

Will Henry is currently Vigouroux’s understudy and although Williams has high hopes for the teenager, but the Town head coach feels it is too soon to expect him to take on the role of number one.

“If serious offers came in for Lawrence then I should think that funds would be made available to bring in somebody to replace him,” said Williams.

“Will is fantastic and has got plenty of time to become a number one but it is potentially too early to put a huge strain on such a young player in such a key position where there is absolutely no hiding place at all.

“I should think that there will be a contingency plan should we lose Lawrence.”
