HEAD coach Luke Williams is still not certain whether or not Town will be able to keep Queens Park Rangers loanees Michael Doughty and Darnell Furlong at the club for the full season.

Midfielder Doughty is in his second stint at the County Ground, having first signed on a temporary basis back in January, and was joined by full-back Furlong in agreeing a season-long loan switch to the club in the summer.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink sanctioned the duo’s departure to Wiltshire but he has since been replaced as Rangers boss by Ian Holloway.

Holloway has spoken in positive terms about the pair since and is thought to be considering bringing them both back to Loftus Road for the second half of the season.

Last week, Williams admitted he would not be surprised if the Hoops wanted Doughty and Furlong back due to the positive impact they have had on Town’s play.

However, on Wednesday, the Town head coach revealed there had been no solid confirmation from the Championship club about the players’ immediate futures either way.

“No, unfortunately (we have heard) nothing,” said Williams.

“The parent club always hold all the cards in this situation and they can choose to play it however they wish, really.

“We will have to wait until they give us a definitive yes or no to see if the boys are going back or staying.”

Williams also expects a decision on defender Rhys Sharpe’s future at Swindon to be made in the coming days.

The former Derby County man signed a short-term deal with the club on December 6, having previously been on trial at the County Ground.

Sharpe has played just once for Town, in the EFL Trophy against Luton on the day he signed, and it is believed that his contract runs for just four weeks and will expire on January 3, the day after Town host Southend United in their first game of 2017.

Williams says director of football Tim Sherwood will have the final say on whether Sharpe’s stay at Town is prolonged in the new year.

Williams said: “That is a decision that will be made at that point when the contract expires. We will take a view and Tim will have the final say on whether he stays with us for a longer period.”
