SWINDON Town youngster Ellis Iandolo made his first return to competitive football in two months on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old has been out of action since coming off the bench and scoring in the 3-2 defeat to Luton Town in the Checkatrade Trophy, exactly two months before Tuesday’s development game with Bournemouth.

Iandolo, who joined Town on a youth contract in the summer of 2015 on the back of a successful trial, was a second-half substitute for Ross Embleton’s side and had an impact as he won a penalty, which Jermaine Hylton slotted away.

Having signed a contract extension until the end of the season – with an option for a further year – at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, Iandolo was enjoying a decent run in the side before picking up his injury and Embleton is happy to see him back.

“Ellis was a bit red in the face after about 10 minutes,” he said, commenting on Iandolo’s lack of match fitness as a result of his lay-off.

“When I put him on, I actually said to the rest of the lads on the dugout that we forget how well Ellis was doing when he picked up his injury.

“I’m really pleased to see him out there. He has suffered a number of setbacks after the original injury.

“He has constantly worked really hard to get him back to this position.

“Now, it is a case of not letting him run before he can walk.

“It’s a case of getting him into training, working him harder, building up his fitness so that, sooner rather than later, he is capable of doing that but not soon enough that he is going to drop off and get injured again.”

Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill also got a full 90 minutes under his belt as he continues his return from an ankle ligament injury sustained against Fleetwood Town, but there was no sign of Jonathan Obika and Bradley Barry, who are still easing their way back into training, according to Embleton.

“When we trained (yesterday) morning, both Brad and Jon were working hard running on the side of the session,” he added.

“It’s the end stages of their recovery and their return to training.

“Both of them were working really hard physically to get them to the stage again – one step back from Ellis – where they are prepared and ready to come back into the group to train.

“Then we have to gauge how we go in order to get them ready to come back into the group and be up for selection.”

Another on the comeback trail is defender Jamie Sendles-White.

The former QPR man saw his season ended when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and damaged other parts of his left knee against Saturday’s opponents Bury at the County Ground back in September.

Sendles-White, who is out of contract at the County Ground come the end of the season, had a second operation in January and has since been cleared to tentatively start the road to full fitness.

Writing on Twitter today the 22 year old said: “Got the all clear from the surgeon today to start building up to running. Can’t wait to push on now. Get me back out there.’’
