FOR Swindon Town youth product Scott Twine the end of the season has come too early after making his debut off the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

The teenager was part of a triple change made by head coach Luke Williams, with Swindon already trailing by three goals with 20 minutes left at the Valley.

However, while describing the moment he got the nod from the Town head coach on the sidelines as ‘surreal’, Twine was grateful for the chance to show what he is about, having been in fine form for the U18s this term, earning him the offer of a professional contract at the County Ground.

“It wasn’t the best result but it was good to get my debut and I enjoyed it, playing in front of a good stadium and good fans as well,” said Twine, who is expected to be named on a retained list later this week, despite no confirmation of either him or fellow academy products Tom Ouldridge and Jordan Simpson having signed the deals put on the table by the club.

“I found out on Friday that I was involved in the squad and I was looking forward to it since then really.

“I’ve been involved in the squad and been on the bench a few times but it was nice to get my debut.

“It was a bit surreal really, I just thought I would enjoy it, there was no pressure, I would just go out and do my best.

“I just wanted to score a goal or help the team to score a goal. It was different to what I am used to playing against, but I enjoyed it and it’s a learning curve and hopefully more to come.”

Twine will continue that learning curve over the close season and will hope to be in contention when the team meets back up later this summer for pre-season training.

“I am just going to work hard in the off season and set a programme and try my best throughout that,” he added.

“I am just going to keep doing what I am doing and just hope I can keep scoring goals and hope I get another chance.

“I can’t wait to get back now (for pre-season) already. I just want to keep playing and enjoy it.

“We obviously want to go straight back up and we’ve got the team to do that as well and I am just looking forward to getting started now.”
