Town board refuses to answer our questions until they feel the time is right'

TOWN last night declined the Swindon Advertiser's request for further information about the proposed new investment in the club.

The board of directors claimed confidentiality agreements' prevented them from revealing anything about the identity of the new investors or their intentions.

And they urged the club's fans to remain "positive, patient and calm'' while supporting "the team as their pre-season training progresses.'' In an emailed letter addressed to the Advertiser's sportsdesk, the Town hierarchy insisted they would not comment further on the issue until discussions with the new investors "have been concluded.'' They were responding to a letter sent by the Advertiser to acting chief executive Martyn Starnes, chairman Willie Carson, majority shareholder Sir Seton Wills, board members James Wills and Bob Holt and the Wills' family advisor Mike Diamandis on Monday.

The letter, hand-delivered to the County Ground by chief sports writer Andy Cryer, posed a series of questions about the mystery surrounding the takeover, the future of the club and the outstanding issue of debts owed to creditors.

It followed the huge volume of feedback sent to our offices about the takeover from concerned supporters.

However, Town yesterday claimed providing such information would be "breaching these agreements."

They added: "Rest assured, that when the time is right full details will be provided.''
