LEE Holmes admits he is interested in a loan move to the County Ground but has revealed the decision is now out of his hands as Town and Derby continue to thrash out a deal.

League One rivals Huddersfield and Walsall are also believed to be chasing the Derby winger, pictured, but, if terms can be agreed, Town would appear to be his favoured location.

Holmes, a left winger, though admits there are "a few stumbling blocks" the clubs are trying to iron out and believes any deal is unlikely to be finalised in time for tomorrow's home clash with Luton.

The 20-year-old former England youth international was in the stands for Town's Carling Cup defeat to Charlton but saw enough to convince him a return to Wiltshire would suit.

Having played 15 games at Town on loan back in the 2004/05 season, Holmes has revealed a potential loan deal until Christmas is being discussed but admits he is still in the dark as to whether it will go through.

He said: "There has been no end decision. I came down on Tuesday to have a chat with the manager and look at the game but there is still a lot to be sorted out.

"I have said it before but the way the fans treated me last time I was at Swindon make the move an attractive option but there are still a few stumbling blocks to get over.

"Basically it is all pretty much out of my hands now. I know Derby and Swindon are talking and that they are trying to sort out a few issues between them.

"I can't do a lot now as I am just waiting to hear from Derby that the move has been given the go-ahead. There are other clubs interested as well but like I said I am just waiting to hear for Derby and Swindon to sort things out."

Holmes had talks with Town chief Sturrock after Tuesday's game and admits he would not take much persuading to come to Wiltshire, if Derby and Swindon could agree terms.

He said: "There are a few things to be sorted so it is a long way from being done. I just have to have to wait and see what happens between the two clubs.

"But I enjoyed it last time I was here and from what I saw on Tuesday night, Paul Sturrock seems have to a good side here.

"The whole squad is different from when I was here so I think the manager wanted me to come down and see what they were all about. I did and was impressed.

"It looks as though the manager has done a great job. I thought Swindon did really well and probably deserved something out of the game.

"I don't think anything will be sorted in time for the weekend but hopefully I will have more idea what is happening next week."

Holmes has been highly-rated since making his debut for Derby as a 16-year-old but a stubborn ankle injury disrupted his progress and saw him shipped out on loan to Bradford last season.

He still harbours ambitions of breaking back into Premier League Derby's team but knows a spell away is essential for him to prove his fitness.
