CRAIG Easton believes labelling Town the maddest team in the land' may be taking things a bit far but insists the presence of big characters is very much in the Wiltshire outfit's favour.

A tattoo-covered striker, an art-loving Slovakian goalkeeper, a glove-wearing French-Algerian and a barbecue-obsessed manager has led Town, in some quarters, to be likened to the old Wimbledon.

Sky Sports's September magazine has actually described Paul Sturrock's men as football's new crazy gang and, while a little bemused by the comparisons, midfielder Easton admits there are a few larger than life characters.

He said: "The new crazy gang? I'm not sure about that but I guess we have a few characters in the squad and that can only be beneficial.

"It is a long season and having character around in the squad can help everyone get through it.

"Players like Robbo (Christian Roberts) are great to have around in the dressing rooms because they have great banter and just keep the morale up. Characters are also important on the pitch and we have our fair few of them as well. Hasney is a good talker while Jamie Vincent's experience is also a big help."

Town entertain Crewe tomorrow looking to extend their unbeaten start to the League One season and will be hoping to have a couple of fresh faces available for selection.

Easton was one of the new boys to arrive in Wiltshire this summer and, from his own experience, he is confident there will no problem with players feeling welcome.

"The guys who came in the summer were made welcomes straight away," he said.

"You need a bigger squad than we have now and that is trying to be adressed.

"It is a long season and you need competition for places. Saying that we have started our season very well. We were actually really disappointed not to have beaten Cheltenham on Saturday.

"We need to build on the performances we had against Luton and Cheltenham.

"There is no point in looking at previous results though. We just have to try and replicate the attitude we have had in recent weeks."
