HIS body may be black and blue with bruises, but Hasney Aljofree insists it will take more than a few bumps to keep him from pulling on a Town shirt for the visit of Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

The Town skipper is just one of a handful of walking wounded in the County Ground camp, with central defensive partner Jerel Ifil, right, also weighed down with a stress fracture in his shin.

With Town still under a transfer embargo and the loan window due to close on Thursday, boss Paul Sturrock has voiced major concerns over the health bill of his injury-ravaged squad.

Aljofree played through an achilles injury at Elland Road on Saturday and was still feeling the effects during yesterday's training session, but as far as the captain is concerned, if he can kick a ball he can play at the weekend.

He said: "If we physically cannot play then we won't, but if there's even half a chance then me and Jerel will definitely play if the manager picks us.

"If the club stays in embargo and the manager can't sign any players then we just have to soldier on and try to nick a few results here and there.

"We can't do anything about what's going on off-the-field. It's a shame because the manager has his hands tied.

"We've done well to be where we are, but we don't want to be just nicking results here and there, we want to be beating teams convincingly.

"It's hard at the moment because things going on off the pitch are not helping us.

"As soon as that turns around, and the gaffer can start signing players, we should be able to take the club to the next level."

Town's financial woes were not helped by Saturday's ill-discipline at Elland Road, with seven yellow cards set to land the club a £2,500 fine from the Football League.

While Sturrock seeks counsel with the club's current and prospective new owners about the unpaid £900,000 CVA, Aljofree insists it is business as usual for rest of the Robins squad.

After Saturday's battling display in a hostile Yorkshire, Aljofree paid tribute to his right-hand man Ifil, who also played through the pain barrier for the Town cause.

He said: "Jerel's attitude is spot on. The way he carries himself is great and he's quite a special person really.

"It's not even to do with football, it's just the way he is and I think that showed in his peformance.

"He has carried on even with his injury, helping me out, and I will help him out when I can too. We work hard together and I think that shows.

"Nobody wants to come off the pitch. Everyone wants to fight for the cause because we all believe the club is going in the right direction."

Town will tonight discover who their opponents will be for the second round of the FA Cup when Forest Green Rovers and Rotherham United replay at Millmoor.
