DAVE Byrne has vowed Town are not prepared to surrender their hottest young talent easily - after a phone call from the club's suitor told him there was no need for the Robins to be a selling club'.

Ahead of tomorrow's League One clash at home to Brighton, Town's joint caretaker boss has moved quickly to calm all transfer talk surrounding Ben Tozer's future, insisting they are in no rush to get rid.

Tozer is just one of several of Town's youth team to attract interest from top flight clubs but, with Newcastle, Everton and Portsmouth circling with intent, Byrne has reassured fans they are not necessarily looking to sell.

He said: "The situation with Ben is the same as I had spoken about previously.

"There have been enquiries from Premier League clubs but no official bids.

"Perhaps we are coming to a situation now when we do not need to sell him though.

"After speaking to Mr Fitton it seems his consortium believe players like Ben could help the club move forward.

"They are big believers we should be building towards the future.

"If they believe that then that is the way we will go.

"Because of the way finances have been at Swindon in the past, we have maybe had to sell our assets once they arrive but with talks hopefully being concluded today, maybe we can build for the future."

Byrne watched Brighton lose 2-0 at Nottingham Forest on Friday night but insists it is all about his own team ahead of tomorrow's clash.

He said: "We have not put any pressure on the players.

"We have not spoken about Brighton at all because all we can do is put out a team we think will get a result.

"We are missing a few players at the moment but we can't use that as an excuse.

"It is a results business and we know a couple of wins we are back at the right end of the table.

"If we lose there is the danger of being dragged into the wrong half."

Meanwhile, Town are waiting on the fitness of a number of their walking wounded before they decide which system to throw at Brighton tomorrow.

Lee Peacock, Jamie Vincent and Steve Adams could all come back into contention for the League One clash at the County Ground, giving caretaker bosses Ady Williams and Dave Byrne their first selection headache.

Tozer also returns from suspension but, after an impressive showing at Southend, Williams admits there is still a lot to think about.

He said: "Last week we saw both ends to the spectrum.

"The lads were fantastic at Southend but disappointing at Carlisle.

"We went through the DVD of the Carlisle game and you saw we had more people in the box playing 4-5-1, or 4-3-3, than we have had playing 4-4-2 at home.

"If you play that system well it can cause problems. It is not a negative system."

Byrne added: "But we did lack the amount of crosses going in.

"We won't know what system we are playing until tomorrow because it could depend on the players available."
