SLOWLY but surely' is Blair Sturrock's masterplan for the remainder of Town's season as they look to play catch-up on some of League One's more fancied outfits.

The Town striker is continuing to silence his earlier critics with some intelligent and hard-working attacking displays and is refusing to give up on setting up a grandstand season finale.

Sturrock played creator against Walsall on Saturday, after scoring the goal that kept Town in the FA Cup last time out, and insists many more performances like that and they will soon be hovering around the play-off zone.

He said: "The confidence showed. Everyone is confident on the ball, everyone did their job and maybe this Tuesday we will take it on from there and score more goals.

"The play-offs are not impossible, especially with the way we are playing.

"We just have to keep edging up there. We need a win as soon as possible then we can go on from there.

"We have to keep picking up points away from home and winning at home. There is still a lot of football to be played and there is no panic on our behalf.

"We know the league is still tight and so we will just carry on quietly and hopefully slowly work our way up and towards that top six."

Andy Nicholas's first goal of the season and Craig Easton's rare header turned the game on its head, leaving Edrissa Sonko to rescue a point for the hosts.

Sturrock said: "We came out in the second half there and I felt we dominated them. It turned out we started to look like we were the home team. We were getting up the park and doing the right things and kept it simple.

"We got it wide, had a lot of corners and kept turning them. It was good to play in.

"I don't know what happened to them after the break. In the first half they looked a wee bit dangerous but then it was all change.

"Getting a draw is not bad but we deserved the win.

Sturrock has been forced to settle for a substitutes role for the majority of the season but, with Barry Corr suspended and Simon Cox back at Reading, has enjoyed a new partnership with Billy Paynter in recent weeks.

"I think me and Billy in the first half were just trying to get used to the pitch and checking them out.

"In the second half we played closer together, kept the ball well and the team scored a couple of goals.

"The goals will come from the strikers as we have started to put a partnership together."
