TOWN already have one or two' loan signings lined up for moves to the County Ground after finally being given the green light to resume transfer activity this week.

The Football League yesterday agreed to lift the embargo hanging over the club, on a conditional basis, and it is expected to be ratified by the authorities at a board meeting on Thursday.

Town's new boss Maurice Malpas admits the squad does need some bolstering for a play-off push ahead but also insisted he would not be rushed into making any wrong decisions.

A couple of loan signings have already been identified and could be in Wiltshire in time for Saturday's League One clash with Nottingham Forest.

Malpas said: "I was in the fortunate position I could speak to Paul Sturrock and John Blackley. They said there is a reasonable squad already there.

"They did say we would need one or two players but that is par for the course. We need one or two bolster the squad.

"I have told the players they will get every opportunity to impress though.

"Some will get a big kick out of that, others don't enjoy it. So we will see what reaction we get from individuals and take it from there.

"There is no panic. Unlike in Scotland you can still bring loan players in so there is no rush. If players become available that we think are better than what we have got then we will try to bring them in."

Chairman Andrew Fitton, pictured above, spoke with relief after his talks with the league yesterday afternoon and insisted as long as they are kept up to date with developments, business could return to normal.

He said: "The Football League have lifted the absolute embargo on the club.

"This means that they can keep ushonest for the next few months and make sure we do what we have promised to do.

"They have downgraded us to a flexible embargo. This means we have to keep them informed of what we are doing. Provided we do that there is no reason why we should not operate normally.

"By the end of season we should have done everything that we have promised to do. The CVA will be gone, the Inland Revenue will be gone from that point of view.

"The club still owes some fines to to the Football League and those will have been dealt with, which means the balance sheet of the football club will be back in shape."

Fitton has insisted Town have so far not received any official bids for goalkeeper Peter Brezovan and are still waiting an answer from Reading on their bid for striker Simon Cox.
