LEE Peacock believes Crewe Alexandra will feel the full force of Town's FA Cup shoot-out heartbreak after revealing he and his teammates are entering the last-chance saloon.

The dejected midfielder believes his side let themselves down after crashing out of the third round to League Two Barnet 2-0 on spot-kicks last night - but insists a positive reaction at Gresty Road on Saturday would be the inevitable consequence.

Peacock revealed an angry Maurice Malpas warned the players afterwards they would have one more match to prove their worth and he is confident a different Robins side will emerge at the weekend.

Missing all four spot-kicks after drawing the replay 1-1, Town will also be waiting anxiously to hear the results of Sofi Zaaboub's ankle x-ray after he was carried off late on, with Barnet's Michael Leary seeing red for the challenge.

Billy Paynter's 41st-minute opener looked like it would set Town on their way but, after the former Port Vale man put through his own net early in the second half, Town struggled to find the necessary creative spark.

Peacock said: "We go into Crewe away and really take it personally. I try and tell people out on the pitch to take it personally.

"The gaffer has made it clear most of us will play Saturday. But if it does not happen on Saturday people will get dropped and if you don't like it you can sulk, you can do whatever.

"You take that because if you are not doing it, whoever it is, you don't deserve to be in there because there are people in the wings dying to get out there.

"Like I said there is no one going out there and intentionally not trying. It just never happened, they dug in and had some good possession. There were too many individual errors and as a team we can do better.

"Personally, on Saturday I can't wait just to make up for it."

A disappointed Malpas blamed a lack of quality in the final ball for the defeat, with his side unable to make the most of playing against 10 men for more than 45 minutes.

"It was the reverse of the Swansea game," said Peacock. "We had so much possession but didn't do enough to kill them off.

"Billy was unlucky but we don't do ourselves any favours. We didn't work the 10 men with 11 men. We went too direct too soon. Me and Pooky were screaming in the middle to get it out the other side.

"We let ourselves down as a team. There have been too many silly mistakes. It happens so many times when we play so well and the following game we are a shadow of ourselves.

"We had so much possession but the urgency was not there. It is hard to put your finger on but we just did not do enough. It is personal pride. You want to do better for yourself, the lads around you and the support. You don't want to ley anyone down."

Their penalty misery cost Town a mouth-watering fourth round tie at home to West Country rivals Bristol Rovers, rubbing salt into the wounds even more for ex-Bristol City man Peacock.

He said: "We have to take it on the chin. It is a kick in the nuts. You take it and try to use it positively.

"It just gutting being a good derby game in the next round, the fans would have loved it and so would we."
