IT may be commonplace for modern-day footballers to complain about playing too many games, but with four matches coming up in the next 11 days, Town striker Simon Cox admits he would be delighted to take part in every single one of them.

Following a successful loan spell before Christmas, Cox's return to the County Ground is yet to hit the heights many expected, despite scoring against Cheltenham last week.

His debut was put back because of a technical hitch in his permanent transfer, while he also sat out Saturday's defeat against Nottingham Forest through suspension.

But the 20-year-old is hoping a run of games will herald a flow of goals, starting tomorrow against Walsall, and he admits he's just delighted to be playing first team football.

Cox said: "I might well have scored against Forest had I not been suspended, I don't know.

"Stop-start isn't a problem for me - I just carry on what I'm doing and showing the form from when I was here the first time.

"March is a big month as we've got eight games.

"It's Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Monday or something silly like that.

"There's a lot of games, but that's not a problem for me, and hopefully we can stick with it and just keep grinding out wins.

"This is my first full season in football at pro level. I've been in and out of the Reading first team, but never really got a run of games.

"So for now it's getting used to playing week in, week out, training with the same people and getting games under my belt.

"If goals come then great, but performances are the ones that matter to me."

"I set myself an overall target.

"I said when I came here first time that I wanted between eight and 10. I got nine.

"Now I'm back I said I want another five so I'm looking at around about 15 goals.

"That's the target for me and that would be a good start."

Cox has been struggling with flu all week, but is determined to shake off the illness so he can spearhead Town's attack tomorrow against the Saddlers.

"As long as I sleep well and eat well, I should be fit," he revealed.

"The most important thing is that I make sure I don't pass it on to any of the lads.

"I've managed to train all week because we haven't played.

"Obviously I missed last week through suspension, so the manager's had me in all this week to make sure that I'm fit for Saturday.

"It's not going to be an easy game as they're a good side, but I can't wait to get out there and hopefully start scoring again."
