SWINDON Town have been tracking QPR striker Andy Johnson, but the striker still needs to prove his fitness before moving to the County Ground.

The Robins have had the former Everton and Crystal Palace striker lined up for a move for the last few weeks if they were able to have the embargo currently imposed on the club lifted, but the 32-year-old is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered against Chelsea in September.

Johnson is training with Rangers today where he will be assessed by manager Harry Redknapp, at which point a decision will be made on where is future lies. The Advertiser understands Town will only complete the loan deal if they are satisfied with the fitness of the experienced forward.

It is also thought Town manager Kevin MacDonald has a number of other targets, in addition to the three young players from Tottenham previously reported, if he is allowed to add to his squad by Thursday emergency loan deadline.
