SWINDON Town chairman Jed McCrory has confirmed that the club intend to sit down with the representatives of striker Adam Rooney to review his contract with the Robins.

Part of the deal which brought Rooney to the County Ground from Birmingham last August included a clause which would hand the striker a two-year deal from July 1 this year.

It is believed that the contract in question, which was agreed by the previous regime at the club, would cost Town around £8,000 per week including agents' fees and living expenses, and the new Swindon board are keen to renegotiate the terms of the arrangement.

McCrory would like Rooney to remain at Town, and he plans to meet with the relevant parties in the coming days to thrash out a deal.

“We’ve basically reviewed Adam’s contract. We’ve put a phone call in to his agent and requested a meeting with his agent to go through Adam’s contract and the terms because the value of it is quite high for a League One player,” he said.

“It’s not Adam’s fault. He’s a good lad, we want him at the football club, he’s a good forward but we just want to go through the contract. We weren’t here when the contract was done so we just want to go through it.

“We want Adam to stay - he’s a good lad and a good player and we don’t want him to feel unwelcome here because it’s not his doing. We haven’t sat with his agent yet.”
