SWINDON Town could yet resurrect their bid to lure Arsenal starlet Daniel Boateng to the club, the Advertiser understands.

With the emergency loan window opening today boss Paolo Di Canio is desperate to add defensive cover as soon as possible, particularly with Alberto Comazzi out for this Saturday game against Southend due to suspension.

Aden Flint and Joe Devera are likely to resume their defensive partnership against the Shrimpers but otherwise Town are a little short of options at the back with only Alessandro Cibocchi available as cover – although the Italian defender is still not fully match fit.

It was revealed shortly after the Carling Cup first-round win over Bristol City that Town had agreed a loan deal for Boateng, but the move fell through when Arsenal told Town the following week that they had decided to keep hold of the youngster.

But a move for Boateng being revived in the emergency loan window has not been completely ruled out, although Di Canio is actively pursuing other options rather than waiting on a decision by the Gunners.

Meanwhile, the Advertiser understands that Blackburn striker Nick Blackman is unlikely to join the club.

The teenage forward first emerged as a possible signing after the 3-2 win over Rotherham on Saturday.

Di Canio hinted at a Premier League striker potentially joining the club.

The Town boss spoke with Blackburn counterpart Steve Kean on Monday about a move, but the Scot has decided to keep him at the Premier League club for the time being.

Lukas Magera has been ruled out until next week after picking up a knock against Rotherham, leaving Town with Alan Connell, Mehdi Kerrouche and Raffaele De Vita as the club’s recognised strikers.

Jordan Pavett’s loan move to Newport County is set to go through as planned today.
