SWINDON TOWN: Brentford sign former Town loanee Pritchard

Swindon Advertiser: Alex Pritchard has joined Brentford on a season-long loan from Tottenham Alex Pritchard has joined Brentford on a season-long loan from Tottenham

FORMER Swindon Town loanee Alex Pritchard has signed for Brentford on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder was one of the shining lights for a Town team that finished eighth in League One last season and his impressive performances have earnt him a shot at Championship football in 2014/15.

Brentford manager Mark Warburton told the club's official website: "Alex is a player I have watched for many years. I have followed his career at Tottenham from a young age.

“He is very good tactically and technically with excellent dead ball delivery. He showed his quality while he was on loan at Swindon last year.

“Alex will add to the quality in our squad, which is taking shape nicely ahead of the start of the season. This deal is testament to the work of Sporting Director Frank McParland and his team over the summer.

“We fought off competition from a number of Championship clubs to get Alex to Griffin Park.”

This is how young players should be developed and will make him a much better player than any B Team would where he could be in L3 for a few years!
.
Start in L1 or L2 and move up each year until ready for your parent club
.
If Parent club is top 4 or 6 Premiership like Spurs then I guess next season maybe a loan to a bottom half Premiership side to gain top flight expereince - i.e. Townsend at QPR and then return to Spurs to challenge
.
Like this he would only be 22 when starting to play top flight football (with 2 years or 75-100 games under his belt) and would then be 23 at Spurs (with 120-150 games under his belt) so still very young and prime to start to play for England!
.
As said good luck to the lad - cracking talent and attitude and Brentford play some decent stuff so hopefully he will do well there

Good luck to the Lad for making the step up. It is a bit of a sickener though going to Brentford.

This is absolutely how the Swindon model should work and good luck to Pritchard. Hall at Birmingham too and I would expect Mason to find a Championship club as well.

The clear message to Prem teams is send your players to Swindon and we will improve and develop them.

Frustrating to an extent that we only get them for a year, (maybe a relief in the case of Hall) but nevertheless when money's tight got to be good for all concerned. Even better if we can sign one or two like Luongo and Byrne.

Don't get too fretful smirg. When the worm turns we will be taking the best players out of both Brentford and Bournemouths squads.

He won't get to play much football then as they look to bypass the midfield and are mainly tough tackling in that department

Perhaps they have signed him for set piece taking as I remember them looking for free kicks at every opportunity!

Why not? They're a good well-run club and they'll soon be moving to a new stadium. On every one of my visits there over donkey's years I've always found it a friendly place too. Pritchard's hardly a superstar. He was never going to have a queue of big clubs clamouring for his services. Good luck to him and them. Yet another loan though. Sorry but I really don't like this systematic use of the loan system.
