Luong wait is over for Mass

Massimo Luongo celebrates his early goal

AFTER 252 days without a goal, Massimo Luongo finally found the back of the net on Saturday and the Australian said he was “buzzing” to finally get his name on the scoresheet.

Luongo’s last strike for Swindon Town came on November 30 last year, when he plundered one of the three his side managed against Carlisle United at the County Ground.

However, his barren streak came to an end within three minutes of the new League One campaign at the weekend, as he got on the end of Nathan Byrne’s cross to prod the ball beyond Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Sam Slocombe.

Speaking to the Advertiser after the game, Luongo revealed he intends to be more prolific in 2014/15.

He said: “I was buzzing. I said thanks to Nath for getting me my goal. I’ve been waiting so long for it. It’s something in my game I’ve been focusing a little more on – getting the shots off, getting in the box and I got a bit of reward for today.

“I think I was trying to be a bit more disciplined in midfield (last season) rather than being reckless and getting in the box. I was trying to adapt my game a little bit to suit the team and maybe suit my form a little bit but I’ll see how it goes when it comes to January and winter days.

“I’ve got to learn from how I got the goals last season and the positions I took to get them. If I can watch my games, I can see what I did right and take that into my game.”

Apart from a few wayward passes/wrong choices on Saturday, Mass was awesome. So much skill and control. He has also got tougher physically - great player and still so young with the world at his feet.
