I can only concur with Miss S Witts’ letter (Adver 24 March) regarding the recent blitz by the Jobcentre to seemingly sanction as many people as they can. I have a friend who works part time doing volunteer work. She made a small error on her weekly jobsearch sheet and had her money stopped for four weeks causing her immense mental and physical stress, not to mention the financial hardship it put on her.
In any other walk of working life, if you make a genuine mistake, you are given a verbal warning, you do not have your entire sole income taken away and forced to live on handouts from friends and family. Surely as a nation this is no way to treat people.
