IN her letter “Rethink waste policy” (SA 6 June) Councillor Fay Howard outlines all the problems with taking green waste to the recycling centre and blames just about everyone (but the real culprits) for the problem.

She seems to suggest Labour has the answers and calls for a rethink on policy. The truth is that policy is decided in Brussels and it matters not a jot who has “control” of the council in Swindon.

I draw attention to the following: Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC Packaging and Waste Directive 94/62/EC Landfill Directive 99/81/EC and Biodegradable Waste Directive 1999/31/EC Collectively all these EU directives (plus others) effectively tie the hands of our council to do anything about green, or any other colour, waste and it matters not a jot who runs the council; they have to obey EU law.

People often ask why they should vote for UKIP at local level; this is just one example.
