What a complex person David Cameron is. When he gave Alex Salmond and his Scottish Nationalist Party their desired referendum he pointedly excluded the rest of the United Kingdom from participation in the vote; in doing so he accepted the illogical argument that Scottish Independence was a matter just for the Scots. Of course he was wrong as it wasn’t just political independence that Mr Salmond wanted.
We now have the extraordinary situation of Mr Cameron ‘pleading’ with the population of England, Wales and Ulster to show their ‘love’ of all things Scottish by placing a Saltire in a window. How ludicrous a request and how deeply insulting.
The proper way for the other members of the UK to show their support was through the ballot box as an integral part of the independence process. However, non Scotland residents were not to be trusted with such a decision, an absurdity which precluded proud Scots living outside of Scotland’s borders from having a say in the future of the country of their birth.
It is certainly odd of the British Prime Minister to ask the rest of the UK to plead with the Scots to stay in a relationship of unequals, having denied them that very opportunity in the first place Des Morgan Caraway Drive Swindon
